The pond in Community Park won`t be getting any bigger, but the vegetation around it will get denser, village officials said last week.
The Army Corps of Engineers has rejected a village request to enlarge the pond, which the corps classifies as wetlands rather than a recreational lake. It was created to replace wetlands lost when football and soccer fields, basketball courts, a playground and a walking path were built at the park.
Instead of enlarging the pond, the corps told village officials they must replace native vegetation that has died along the pond`s perimeter. The village will present its plan to the corps next month.
