Joan Rivers honed her catty wit at Chicago`s Second City, so not surprisingly, her first instinct is to toss out a snappy one-liner when asked about holiday gifts that have meaning for her.
”My favorite Christmas gift was a life-size Dr. Ruth doll that fits in my pocket,” says the comedian and host of WGN-TV`s ”The Joan Rivers Show.” But pressed for a serious answer, she came up with this response:
”Two years ago, my daughter, Melissa, was about to turn 21. On Christmas morning there was a letter slipped under my door from my daughter telling me how much she loved me and my late husband and how she appreciated all the sacrifices we`ve made for her and the education we forced down her throat.”

Of course, Rivers couldn`t resist a humorous riposte on the topic of her least appreciated Christmas offering: ”My least favorite present would be name tags for my stretch marks or scratch-and-sniff pictures of Madonna.”
Hit the snare.
