Ross Draper, who missed two fourth-quarter field-goal tries, made amends in overtime Wednesday by drilling the winning extra point to give Oswego a 21-20 victory over Tinley Park in the IHSA Class 4A playoffs.
”The third (kick) is a charm,” Draper said. ”I thought the second one was good, but apparently it went over the post and not inside it.”
The Panthers (9-1) had tied the score on Tim Silagi`s 16-yard pass to Rick Natividad. Tinley Park (8-2) had gone ahead on James Manning`s 10-yard run, but the attempted conversion pass fell incomplete.
”We wanted to represent the conference (SICA Central) a little better than we did,” said Tinley Park coach Lou Narish, who did not attempt to kick an extra point in the contest. ”I guess I should have had more confidence in my kicking game.”
After Oswego took a 7-0 lead on a 2-yard run by Scott Wulff, Greg Boldman hit Matt Walus for TD passes of 66 and 7 yards for a 14-7 Tinley Park lead at halftime. Oswego tied the score on Dane Shaw`s 96-yard interception return.
