Lure flashed to an easy lead and stole the Breeders` Cup Mile in record-breaking style.
The 3-year-old colt scooted through early fractions of :22 4/5 and :45 4/ 5 with a 2 1/2-length lead.
Stalking him, Forty Niner Days moved to within a length of Lure at the three-quarter-mile mark, but the son of Danzig took off again to post a three- length victory.
”It was a dream trip. Everything went right,” said jockey Mike Smith.
”He broke extremely well. He rated just as I wanted. When I called on him, he just exploded.”

”The reason I put him on the turf? I decided to do it at Saratoga,”
said McGaughey. ”He was a little disappointing on dirt.”
The final mile time of 1:32 4/5 shattered Gulfstream`s course record by 1 1/5 seconds. Though threatened, Royal Heroine`s 1984 Breeders` Cup record time of 1:32 3/5 stood.
Paradise Creek moved late to finish second. England`s Brief Truce closed fastest, but had to settle for third.
The favorite, Arazi, again failed to live up to his press clippings from last year`s Breeders` Cup Juvenile runaway victory. He finished 11th.
