Shriekback Sacred City (World Domination) (STAR)(STAR)
Shriekback`s stream-of-consciousness talk-sing format mirrors that of former member Carl Marsh`s far superior ”Happyhead” LP released earlier this year. The trio (Barry Andrews, Dave Allen and Martyn Barker) conjures a cityscape of noise, filling every gap with rambling vocals, guitars and jackhammer tribal percussion. As a concept album, ”Sacred City” works best when it puts out a minimum effort, with the exotic song ”Every Force Evolves a Form” (with soulful backing vocals by Wendy and Sarah Partridge) a case in point.
