At a hearing last week, participants discussed only the procedure under which future hearings would be held, said Kim Knauer, state board spokeswoman. A date for the next hearing has not been set, Knauer said, but future meetings most likely will address issues related to the teacher`s dismissal.
The teacher, James O`Neill, is contesting the firing. The Lake Forest District 67 school fired him in April, 10 months after a misdemeanor complaint charged him with public indecency for allegedly exposing himself in a Cook County forest preserve.
O`Neill initially pleaded guilty, but later was allowed to plead innocent on a technicality, because he was not adequately represented by an attorney. He was given two years of court supervision.
