In an unusual move, the Department of the Army is looking for a manager for the base`s 18-hole golf course.

”This is the first time the Army has attempted to negotiate such a contract,” said Dan Trew, public affairs officer for Ft. Sheridan. With such a contract, the golf course would be maintained after the Army leaves the property in June.

The golf course officially closes in December but could reopen in the spring if a management contract can be worked out with an independent operator or another government body, said Trew. The golf course sprawls over several acres of the 700-acre base, with nine holes in open space and nine holes on property slated to go to the U.S. Department of Veterans` Affairs.
