A 23-year-old Island Lake man apparently has decided not to prosecute his younger sister, who told police she stole a valuable baseball card from her brother and sold it for $100.
Police asked Jeffrey Ambrose if he wanted to file charges against his sister, 20-year-old Jennifer Ambrose, said Lake County Sheriff`s Detective John Sherin. Ambrose said he needed a few days to think about it, but he never called police back, Sherin said.
The card, a 1951 rookie card of Hall of Famer Willie Mays, was a family heirloom that Ambrose kept in a case in his dresser drawer. Jennifer Ambrose told police she stole the card and, through a friend, sold it to a collector`s shop for $100.
