Maine West 28, Glenbrook South 13-Maine (2-1) got a big day from Carl Voltaire (26 carries, 155 yards, one touchdown, one 2-point conversion run)
and from Jim Somerville (a 62-yard TD pass to Garrett Larkin and a 5-yard touchdown run) to top Glenbrook (2-1). Maine piled up 239 yards on the ground and scored in every quarter.
”I had nothing to do with (the win). I just stood and watched the game,” said Maine West coach Ray Pettenuzzo, whose offensive line got large praise from losing coach Bob Schoenwetter.
”We just plain got beat. The line play was the difference,” said Schoenwetter, whose team scored on an 87-yard run by Brad Gottfried (17 carries, 169 yards) and a 5-yard run by Doug Pollina. ”I hope this is a reality check for our kids.”
Downers Grove North 16, Glenbard West 10-Mike Mytys ran 55 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown that lifted the Trojans to a 13-10 lead in a meeting between the top two contenders for the West Suburban Silver title.
