But some of us are worried. All the current attention on Somalia can hide two realities. First, at least 12 other African countries in eastern and southern Africa are at food risk today. Somalia being the worst situation should not distract us from 40 to 50 million other Africans who are facing severe drought or civil war or famine.
Also, the truth in Somalia of looting, robbery and insecurity regarding food supplies should not be a brush stroke that covers all of Africa. In most of the affected countries today, food does get through to people in need. In most places, looting and insecurity are not the problem. Indeed, the biggest problems continue to be the lack of awareness, the lack of concern and the lack of concerted action by Europe and North America.
