`Sneakers” raked in $10 million during its debut weekend, displacing

”Honeymoon in Vegas” as the top-grossing movie at the nation`s box office.
”Sneakers” features Robert Redford and Dan Aykroyd in a lighthearted thriller about a ragtag group of ethical burglars. It was one of three films that opened in the top 10, according to box-office figures released Monday by Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc.
The horror flick ”Hellraiser III” debuted at No. 3; sixth place went to ”Wind,” a story of racing and romance at the America`s Cup yachting series. It stars Matthew Modine and Jennifer Grey.
Moviegoers ended their romance with ”Honeymoon in Vegas,” which in its third week brought in $3.8 million, a sharp decline from the $9.2 million that had kept it in first place the previous weekend.
”Hellraiser III” was next with $3.2 million, followed by the Clint Eastwood Western ”Unforgiven” in fourth place with $2.6 million.
Dropping to No. 5 in its fifth week was ”Single White Female” on a take of $2.4 million with ”Wind” at its back on a gross of $2.2 million.
Also finishing in the top 10 were ”Pet Sematary II,” $1.7 million;
”Death Becomes Her,” $1.6 million; ”Sister Act,” $1.2 million; and ”A League of Their Own,” $1 million.
Here are the estimated top ticket sales Friday through Sunday, with distributor, weekend gross, number of theater locations, average per location, total gross and number of weeks in release.
Figures are based on receipts and projections where actual figures were not available. One location can include several screens in multiplex theaters; studios generally do not disclose the number of screens.
