Village Council members say they will file another formal objection with county officials to protest a proposed multifamily development just outside village boundaries.

They are objecting to the proposed construction of a 12-unit apartment building on a half-acre site in unincorporated Du Page County east of Belmont Road and south of Maple Avenue. It is the second time the village has filed an objection this summer, said village manager Kurt Bressner.

Commissioners filed an objection with the county in July protesting a larger 5.1-acre multifamily development planned for an unincorporated site at Maple, just west of Belmont Road, saying they feared parking problems.

While parking is a concern with all development in that area, the main objection to the newer plan ”is simply density,” said Jerry Sprecher, assistant village manager.

The site is zoned for townhouse development, but any rezoning could open the door ”for withdrawal of this project and an even bigger, more dense complex in the future,” Sprecher said.

”The zoning they`re requesting is just totally inconsistent with the area” and the village`s long-range general development plans, he said.

Mayor Betty Cheever agreed, saying the county should examine the area more carefully before considering any zoning changes.

Commissioners are expected to pass a resolution condemning any zoning changes in the area on Sept. 8. Officials said they have already notified the county of the pending resolution.
