Honeymoon in Vegas (Epic) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Who else has provided as much pure fun to as many people as Elvis Presley, and, even through his countless worshippers, as much to remember? A couple of weeks ago in Santa Claus, Ind., for instance, an Elvis impersonator presided over the first known bungee-jumping marriage ceremony. This is followed by the wacky Elvis-themed film ”Honeymoon in Vegas,” whose soundtrack features an impressive group of singers-mostly country-covering such immortal Elvis hits as ”Burning Love” (Travis Tritt), ”Suspicious Minds” (Dwight Yoakam) and ”Are You Lonesome Tonight?” (Bryan Ferry). This pleasant collection isn`t nearly as quirky and outrageously delightful as
”The Last Temptation of Elvis”-and where`s ”Viva Las Vegas,”
anyway?-but it`s hard to top Willie Nelson`s ”Blue Hawaii,” produced by Don Was, and a sentimental ”Love Me Tender,” which, as sung by Christian rocker Amy Grant, begs the question of whether she`s sending a plea to a secular lover or to Jesus. Either way, it works.
