It could be an ideal location for family home development: a little over 9 acres of property in South Barrington, zoned for residential use, and close, maybe very close, to schools.
In fact, the property is part of 20 acres of land that Barrington Unit School District 200 purchased in March as a probable site for future development of an elementary school. Now the district has decided it only needs about 11 acres, north of Penny Road and east of Bartlett Road, and is putting the remainder up for auction.
District officials have set a minimum price of $450,000. The auction will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the district`s offices, 310 James St., Barrington.
The district paid $44,750 an acre for the property or about $402,000 for the nine acres that are up for auction, said Gerry Yeggy, assistant superintendent for business. If there are profits beyond the auction`s administrative costs, he said, he`d like to see the profits placed into a fund toward construction of an elementary school on the remaining property.
