An 18-year-old employee who allegedly took his employer`s 1990 Chevrolet Corvette convertible for a ride without permission demolished the car after losing control in an industrial park, Buffalo Grove police said Sunday.

The car, taken from Floor Covering Professionals at 1616 Barclay Rd., was traveling northbound on Barclay Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it crashed at about 10:35 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Michael Soucy said.

The driver, Christopher Mackowski of Des Plaines, is charged with reckless driving, damaging village property, criminal trespass to a vehicle and criminal damage to property, police said.

The other passenger in the car, Jeffrey Ginsburg, 18, of Des Plaines, was also an employee of the business, Soucy said.

”The driver lost control and struck a light pole, a fire hydrant and rolled over before coming to rest,” Soucy said.

Both passengers were treated for minor injuries and released from Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, officials said.

”It was a company car that belonged to the business owner who was out of town,” Soucy said. ”After hours, this employee went into the business and took the car for a ride.”
