Bob Cady and Doug Ray want to apologize.
”We`re men and we know that all men are scum,” says Cady, half of the Doug and Ray morning radio team at rock station KCLB-FM in Palm Springs, Calif.
That`s why the two recently added a humorous call-in feature to their program in which women share their stories about how men have wronged them.
”We just thought we`d give women a little opportunity to vent on the air,” says Ray.
And vent they have. Each Thursday morning phone lines fill with tales to tell.
A sample: One woman trashed her former boyfriend, who dumped her while she was pregnant. The boyfriend then married someone else, but later tried to reignite the original relationship.
The pair also can get tweaked themselves. Recently, a caller took Cady to task.
”I said those famous words: `I`ll call you,` and I didn`t,” he admits.
Though the ”scum” segment is proving popular, at least one listener isn`t laughing. A local paralegal has called it discriminatory and threatened to complain to the Federal Communications Commission.
So far, Andrew Exler hasn`t made good on his threats, but Cady and Ray have responded to the complaint. They`ve added a ”And Sometimes Women Aren`t So Nice,” segment on Monday mornings.
”We`ve had a few calls,” says station spokeswoman Linda Stoddard, ”but it hasn`t been as well received.”
