Police on Monday made a tentative identification of a man whose car collided head-on with another vehicle over the weekend outside of town, killing the other driver.

The man is believed to be Wymond Thurmond Jr., 35, of Ingleside, said Lake County Sheriff`s Lt. Chester Iwan. Police dismissed several aliases for Thurmond, who was hospitalized Monday in critical condition. But a positive identification cannot be made until his condition improves and police can fingerprint him, Iwan said.

Police said Thurmond was intoxicated early Sunday on Illinois Highway 132 when he allegedly crossed the center line and crashed into a westbound car driven by Michael Nicholls of Lake Villa. Nicholls, 36, was pronounced dead shortly after the accident.
