A developer who cut trees on city-owned land met with Highland Park officials Monday to resolve a dispute stemming from the incident.

The two sides are working out an agreement and will meet again Tuesday. William Cogley, a lawyer for developer Randy Shaf, said he expects the matter to be resolved soon.

”We`re trying to work things out, and I`m confident we`ll be able to do that,” said Cogley, who also represents the development company, Highland Lake Construction Co. Inc.

Last month, Shaf cut 54 trees on city-owned land next to a subdivision he is building. He cut the trees to make way for an access road and a pumping station that the city wants built to control flooding. City officials said they should have seen the detailed engineering plans first and would have suggested ways to save some of the trees.
