Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

USA Basketball head Dave Gavitt met with the players Friday to discuss the simmering issue of what they would wear when they accept their gold medals next Saturday. Reebok has a contract with the USOC that says the uniform it provides must be worn. The U.S. players have contracts with other companies, and have hinted broadly that would not be the case. ”I intend to resolve it not in your newspapers or on television. As far as I`m concerned, it`s not an issue,” Gavitt said. ”I don`t think it will be an issue. The whole thing`s stupid,” said David Robinson. ”That`s not what this is all about. It`s about competition,” said Charles Barkley, who then could not refuse adding a postscript. ”But as a black man all I have to do is remain black, pay taxes and die.”
