A 46-year-old Chicago man drowned in Lake Michigan when he went swimming after a morning of drinking vodka with two friends, authorities said Monday.

The body of Zbijniew Mikolojewski, of the 2900 block of North Kolmar Avenue, was pulled out of the lake Friday, 45 feet off Park Avenue beach in Highland Park, said Deputy Police Chief Tod Rottman.

Two friends of Mikolojewski told police that parked their car on the bluff above Park Avenue beach, and drank vodka, Rottman said. Sometime before noon, Mikolojewski said he was going for a swim.

Park Avenue beach has no swimming area but is used for fishing and to launch boats, Rottman said.
