Chester and Bevilee Hicks have been in sales since they graduated from college, selling mostly consumer products and medical supplies.
So when Terry Deboise, Bevilee`s brother-in-law, came up with the idea for a game to educate black people about their history, the Philadelphia couple were ready to become entrepreneurs.
”You Should Know” is a pocket-sized trivia card game that asks questions about famous and not-so-famous black Americans in science, sports, firsts, history, inventions and entertainment. There are more than 300 questions and answers.
Deboise and his wife, Jacquelyn, both of Houston, did extensive research in black history books, records and tapes for more than a year before proposing the idea to the Hickses in August.
From September to November, the four of them worked on the design. They wanted an educational game that offered a broad range of categories, was easy to play and was inexpensive. They decided on a game with 52 cards, for two or more players, without a board.
The general edition is priced at $6.95. (For more information on where to buy the game, call 215-222-4402.)
