Not long after Mike Keenan told the media he hasn`t read the Chicago newspapers during the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Blackhawks coach blasted these same papers for their portrayals of his comments about goalie Ed Belfour.
Either Keenan`s mind-reading skills are improving, somebody is reading the papers to him or he sneaked a peek.
”I didn`t say Belfour was a poor goaltender,” Keenan said, alluding to some statements after Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals in Pittsburgh when Belfour himself admitted four of the five goals against him were bad ones. ”I said he had a bad day. Eddie`s been there all year long for us, and he will be again.
”I know it`s a bad day for him to have a bad day at the office. But I`m not criticizing him. I`m telling him the truth. I just don`t understand the feedback from you people about what you put in the papers regarding this honesty.”
