Ross Perot says he hates sound bites, but no one does them better. Here are some doozies:

On Reaganomics: ”The total national debt was only $1 trillion in 1980 when President Reagan took office. It is now $4 trillion. Maybe it was voodoo economics. Whatever it was, we are now in deep voodoo.”

On how to handle a despot: ”We sent a few F-111s into Libya and turned

(Moammar) Gadhafi into a choirboy overnight.”

On getting along: ”(If I`m president), you`ll see the Congress and the White House dancing like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire.”

On his ability to be president: ”People ask me, `Can I govern?` And my response is, `Compared to whom?` ”

On the state of the nation: ”When I look at the country today, I feel like I`m watching General Motors in the mid-`80s.”

On a vice presidential running mate: ”No empty suit that goes to funerals and plays golf.”

On how he`ll fix the country`s problems: ”We`ll be going night and day. We`ll have the car jacked up, we`ll have the engine out of it, we`ll be working on it, and we`ll get it back on the road.”

On Japan: ”They have what used to be our money. We have what used to be their stuff.”

On Japanese mothers: ”They`re Japan`s secret weapon. They make a good Jewish mother look uncaring.”

On the deficit: ”It`s like a crazy aunt you keep down in the basement. All the neighbors know she`s there, but nobody talks about her.”

On executive salaries: ”I`ve said to these guys, `If you want to make that kind of money, be a rock star. Play basketball.` ”

On euthanasia: ”If I`m ever running the state and you see American enlisted men rebuilding a palace for an emir, just have me shot and call it a mercy killing.”

On George Bush: ”A president who shreds, runs, ducks and hides.”

On campaigning: ”The day you see me with a PR man and a sound bite or spin control, hell is frozen over.”
