Last Gentlemen
The World Behind Your Back (Zoo) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
With a giddy collection of lyrically shallow middle-of-the-road love songs, it`s amazing that power pop foursome Last Gentlemen manages to strike paydirt in the hollows. But the toast of Champaign fuses unwavering, emotive vocals with slick instrumentals-mainly guitars and keyboards. ”The World Behind Your Back” is a glossy production (recorded and mixed in Lake Geneva, Wis.) that weaves catchy, radio-oriented tunes like the cowbells-a-clangin`
”Wish You Were Shy” and the woozy ”Gently Let You Down,” while the pensive ”I Don`t Know What to Hope for Anymore” taps a Beatlesque harmony.
