The Apparel Industry Foundation will salute eight local ”fashion achievers” in June.
Winners were announced Tuesday night at a cocktail party at Bice. Awards will be presented at the AIFI`s fifth annual black tie gala at the Chicago Hilton and Towers, June 17.
Seven designers, representing six firms, were nominated to win the Designer of the Year award, which will be announced at the party. They are Marsha Anderle of Caron, Inc.; Tiffani Kim; Yolanda Lorente; Peggy Martin;
Patricia Rhodes, and Rose and Caroline Becker of Caroline Rose. The winner will be chosen by a vote of Chicago fashion designers and manufacturers.
Sears, Roebuck and Co. will be cited as ”a Chicago institution that has supplied fashion to the world.”

Carol Columbus-Green, president of Aubergine Laracris, will receive an entrepreneur`s award for the successful startup of her company in 1990; she designed a tummy-control girdle, now carried by retailers nationwide.
Other awards will go to Shirley Cooper, president of N.H. Rosenthal Furs, a three-generation, family-owned salon, ”fashion legend”; Janet Davies, Channel 7, ”TV fashion reporting”; Bruce Paulson, Fairchild Publications photographer who has covered fashion and society for Women`s Wear Daily for three decades, ”chronicler of fashion”; Homer Sharp, former vice president of design at Marshall Field`s, now president of Sharp Posniak, design consultants, ”creative display”; Barry and Marshall Sussman, co-presidents of Vogue Fabrics for their assistance to beginning designers.
