Gary Scott went 0 for 3, dropping to .103 (3 for 29), his lowest mark in two trips to the majors. Last year, he was sent down after hitting .165 in 31 games.

Manager Jim Lefebvre had benched Scott for Friday night`s game, rained out after two innings. ”I just wanted to give him a day off to sit back and think things over,” said Lefebvre. He thinks Scott will come around, but says: ”You do the job, you play. You don`t do the job, you don`t play.”

– Cardinal right-hander Jose DeLeon (0-1), who started Friday and pitched one inning, starts Sunday against Danny Jackson (0-2). The Cubs beat him 5-1 last Sunday.

– Greg Maddux (2-0), who started Friday`s rainout, will pitch against Philadelphia at Wrigley Field Monday night, with Mike Morgan (0-2) going Tuesday.

– Shawon Dunston hasn`t played since Tuesday and has missed four of the first nine games with soreness in his left hamstring and lower back. Lefebvre says Dunston is about 90 percent and will play soon. Dunston admits he gets sore every few days, but Lefebvre says he isn`t thinking about putting him on the disabled list.
