Jazz Butcher
Condition Blue (Sky) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
The Jazz Butcher-a.k.a. Pat Fish-must be getting tired of his ”cult”
status, as ”Condition Blue” is by far the Brit alternative rock iconoclast`s most accessible record yet. ”Accessible” is a relative term. While songs like ”She`s a Yo-Yo,” ”Honey” (”All that Honey wants is somebody to watch `Twin Peaks` with`) and ”Girls Say Yes” are catchy enough, ambient sound effects, tape loops, feedback guitars and drums that sound like English voices that the truly clever (see the Cure`s Robert Smith and Big Audio Dynamite`s Mick Jones) manage to use to their advantage. The Jazz Butcher won`t replace Michael Jackson at the top of the charts, but ”Condition Blue” rewards with its own offbeat, murky charm.
