The most encouraging sign in Northern Illinois` first two spring football scrimmages has been the running of Steve Rodgers, who missed most of last season with a hamstring injury. Rodgers rushed for 115 yards on 16 carries for the No. 1 offense Saturday, including a 42-yard burst. Redshirt freshman Ron Reichert, a former standout at Homewood-Flossmoor, was 8 of 16 for 117 yards and two touchdowns for the No. 2 offense, and inside linebacker Scott Carlson had a 50-yard interception and a fumble recovery.
When you finish dead last in an 18-team golf tournament, as the Huskies`
men`s team did last weekend at the Marshall Invitational, it`s hard to find a silver lining. But sophomore Jason Samuelian provided just that, finishing in a tie for fourth with a 54-hole total of 217. Samuelian`s 1-over-par 72 in the final round matched the low score of the day. The Huskies travel to Akron this weekend for the 35-team Firestone Intercollegiate Invitational.
