The woman who dressed Chicago women for success in the 1980s aims to furnish their homes in the 1990s.

Jackie Renwick, proprietor of three Chicago clothing shops bearing her name in the boom years of career apparel, recently opened Green Shutters Home Shop Inc., 272 E. Deerpath Rd., Lake Forest.

”People are definitely into their homes in the 1990s,” says Renwick, who threw open the doors of the venture by inviting several hundred people to breakfast and browse among ”pieces that finish a home, comfortable upholstery, imported pine and special items, such as hand-painted chairs.”

The idea for the shop originated during a stint as a real-estate broker after she left the clothing business, Renwick says.

”I don`t think people are moving,” she says. ”More are putting money into where they live. People are attentive to the details.”

For consumers looking for just the right detail or piece, Renwick`s options include an antique English cupboard, $3,200, and a pine reproduction mirrors, $600 to $700.

She chose the name of the shop from Mark Hampton, a New York designer.

”He wrote, `There is nothing as cozy as a house with green shutters,`

” Renwick recalls. ”I agree with that.”

She expects others will, too.

”I`m seeing some of my customers from downtown in the 1980s. We`re older now; we`re into children and homes.”

The shop is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday by appointment; phone 708-615-9660.
