Looks like it`s going to be that kind of year again for Lenny Dykstra.
Dykstra, who missed 99 games last season when he twice broke his collarbone, suffered a broken bone in his forearm on the second pitch of the 1992 season.
Greg Maddux said he threw a new pitch, a cut fastball that breaks in on left-handers, that caught Dykstra on the left forearm above the wrist.
Dykstra played the whole game but went to a hospital later for X-rays that revealed a fracture of the ulnar styloid-the bone just above the wrist.
Former Philadelphia outfielder Von Hayes broke the same bone last year and missed half the season.
The loss of Dykstra could be devastating for the Phillies. Last year, they were 36-27 with him the lineup and 42-57 without him.
Pass the glasses: Third baseman Gary Scott had a rough start, getting picked off first base to kill a rally in the second inning and losing a Dykstra popup that eventually allowed Philadelphia to score two runs in the third. ”I sure felt a lot better when we came back to win this one,” said Scott, who wore sunglasses for the first time in his career after losing the ball. ”I`ve never worn them, even in Arizona. But I`m going to start wearing them now.”
Picture this: A power failure at a Los Angeles uplink facility, which caused computer descrambling problems, resulted in lost video for a few minutes of Tuesday`s Cubs-Phillies game on WGN-Ch. 9, according to a station
spokesperson. Producer/director Arne Harris, however, kept the important plays-Dykstra`s diving catch, Ryne Sandberg`s first hit-on tape and replayed them when satellite transmission was restored.
