Jeremy Roenick won`t quit trying to reach Bobby Hull`s team record of 58 goals in a season, but the Blackhawks` center admitted Monday that he doesn`t expect to make it.

”No,” he replied when asked if he felt the record remained within his grasp. ”There`s just six games left, and I don`t think I`m playing as well as I need to. I`m not on top of my game right now.”

Roenick hasn`t scored a goal in six games since he posted his 51st on March 8 at the Stadium against Boston. The fact that the power play has accounted for only one goal in the last 35 opportunities is a major reason for his drought.

– A glass knee: Some boxers have glass jaws. Hawks winger Brian Noonan apparently has a glass knee. He suffered a minor knee injury Saturday night in Toronto when he fought Guy Larose.

”I should be ready to play Thursday (at Quebec),” Noonan said. The knee forced him to miss Sunday`s loss to Buffalo.

”My fighting debut,” he said of the matchup with Larose. ”I think I`ll make it my last.”

– Former comrades: Ed Belfour didn`t forget all the ex-Hawks who helped him win the Vezina and Calder Trophies last season. When recognized at Monday`s Hawk alumni luncheon as the Hawks` 1990-91 Player of the Year, the goalie pointed out he didn`t do it alone. ”I have to thank my teammates. I know some of them are no longer here,” he told the audience, which included coach/GM Mike Keenan-the reason many of them are no longer here.

– Marching on: Expect to see Bryan Marchment in the lineup again against the Nordiques, because Steve Smith must serve a one-game suspension Thursday for compiling three game misconducts. Marchment has been the extra defenseman scratched the last two games.

– Another Elvis hit: New Sabre Wayne ”Elvis” Presley was dropped to his knees in Sunday`s game when former teammate Keith Brown accidentally hit him in the face with his stick. ”I didn`t get to see him after the game,” Brown said. ”I`ve got to make sure I call him and tell him I didn`t mean it.”

– Going up: Media invitations are in the mail for the April 6 ground-breaking ceremony for the new stadium. If there`s no strike, the playoffs will open two days later. As of now, the Hawks would host St. Louis.
