Red Hot Chili Peppers
Kids who are bored with the regular songs played on their local radio stations should check out the sounds from the funk-rock group the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers` first major-label recording, ”Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik,” had a single, ”Give It Away,” that made it on Billboard magazine`s Top 5 Modern Rock Tracks Chart.
The Peppers have a history of peculiar music, but until signing with Warner Bros. Records, Peppers` brand of funk grooves was almost left unheard. ”We`ve definitely started a scene,” band member Flea Balzary said in a recent interview with Music Express magazine. ”There`s all these bands coming up that play funk and scream and jump around a lot. But the way we do it is untouchable and unbreakable; it protects us.”
When the Peppers formed in 1983 they attracted funk listeners. Music critics hailed the group`s sound and described it as different from anything that ever crawled out of the Los Angeles music scene.
The Peppers have recruited a terrific following, but the group`s renegade music still hasn`t hit the airwaves of Top 40 radio.
However, a special place has been reserved for the Peppers` music on alternative-rock stations.
