How important is it for Jeremy Roenick to score a point? In games when the young center hasn`t earned a goal or assist, the Blackhawks are 5-11-6.
Going into Thursday night`s game with Los Angeles, the club was 20-10-4 when Roenick contributed a point or more.
Roenick was named Gatorade Player of the Month for January, when he compiled more points from three stars of the game voting than any other teammate. His 12 points beat Brent Sutter, who had seven.
Preaching and teaching: Four Hawk players take part in an educational clinic Saturday afternoon at Whitney Young High School. Mike Hudson, Greg Gilbert, Mike Peluso and Keith Brown will discuss with students the significance of a positive lifestyle without drugs. They also take them aside in group segments that will explain to them how hockey is played.
The newlywed game: If you love weddings, drive to Indianapolis Friday and catch 14 of them at the same time. Between periods of the Ice`s International Hockey League game with Muskegon, Valentine`s Day will be celebrated by 14 couples being married on ice, while 16 other pairs renew their vows. One couple will win a Las Vegas honeymoon, courtesy of the Blackhawks` minor-league club.
See the USA: The Hawks have promoted Steve Lyons from a part-time scout to a full-time position. The 30-year-old from Canton, Mass., has been a consultant largely involved with scouting the New England area. Now his duties extend to the U.S. Junior Hockey League and high schools and colleges in this country.
Catching up: Since being cut by Team Canada, Hawks prospect Karl Dykhuis has seven assists in four games with his junior hockey team (Longueuil College-Francais) in the Quebec Major-Junior League. Right wing Bobby House, third-round draft pick last June, has 23 goals, 24 assists for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League.
