Thomas McDade, 76, a realty management executive and planner, was the former senior vice president in charge of planning and management for the Urban Investment and Development Co., which became a division of JMB Properties Co. and handled many of the major suburban shopping centers.
A resident of Park Forest, which he helped develop, Mr. McDade died Monday in Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center.
Mr. McDade was a native of Hamilton, Scotland, and immigrated to Hillsboro, Ill., when he was 5 years old.
During World War II, he served in the 4th Infantry Division and landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. He received the Bronze Star.
At the University of North Carolina, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and then did graduate work at the University of Chicago.
Mr. McDade worked in the late 1950s for the Chicago Housing Authority. He then joined the Urban Division of JMB Properties Co.
When he retired in 1985, he moved back to Park Forest, where he became active in commmunity affairs and became vice president of the Park Forest Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Mignon; a son, Alec; a daughter, Laurie; a stepdaughter, Penny Lee Shnay; a brother; a sister; and two grandchildren.
Plans for a memorial service are pending.
