Here are some tips from Nancy Lindemeyer, editor of Victoria, on how to make your home more romantic.

– Bedrooms: Four poster beds with canopies or swathed in fabrics are always good. So are lace curtains, dressing tables, vanities and bed trays.

– Living room: Take the notion of parlor and impose it on the living room. Use a chair that belonged to somebody important in your family. Mix an heirloom table with a wonderful, comfortable sofa. Use fabrics that are soft and blend in whatever style you like. Create a picture table with family photos. Use anything that makes a living room a private place.

– Dining room: Display your silver and your linens.

– Kitchen: Line or edge your shelves with paper lace. Lighting is very important, too. Bring in things that are personal, like an apron hanging on the side of a door or a rack of garden hats.

– Bathroom: Put your towels in a great basket. Display pretty toiletries and soaps. Use a soft stripe or a floral wallpaper. Hang a robe or an old-fashioned dress on a hall tree. Pull together art, photographs and

collectibles.
