B.B. King
There Is Always One More Time (MCA) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR) 1/2
For those who think the blues patriarch`s best work is behind him, we submit ”There Is Always One More Time.” Though not the best album in King`s 45-year career, as he claims, there`s no doubt it`s his best in a while. Producer Stewart Levine has matched King with a stellar group of backing musicians (including pianist Joe Sample and drummer Jim Keltner) and top-notch material-an ingredient too often missing in his recent work. Sample and lyricist Will Jennings` ”The Lowdown” is a classic after-hours blues, tailor-made for King`s impassioned vocals, and their ”Roll, Roll, Roll” and ”The Blues Come Over Me” fit B.B. to a ”t.”
