Miss Alleged capped off a Breeders` Cup day loaded with upsets when she posted a stunning half-length victory in the $2 million Turf.

Through most of the 1 1/2-mile race, Sky Classic set dawdling fractions with Itsallgreektome in tow. Miss Alleged and jockey Eric Legrix were content to lay back and follow the leaders.

”We were stopped early because of a bad post,” said Legrix of their break from the outside of a 13-horse field. ”She was going very easy early. When I called on her into the straight, she had plenty of gas. She has great acceleration.”

Miss Alleged, clocked in 2:03 4/5, won for the first time this year. The winner`s purse of $1,040,000 was more than 10 times what she had earned this year in six prior starts. The winner`s $86.20 mutuel was the second highest win return in Breeders` Cup history behind Lashkari`s $108.80 upset in the inaugural Breeders` Cup Turf.

Runner-up Itsallgreektome made his move and took the lead at the eighth-pole, but couldn`t hold off the closing kick of the 3-year-old French filly. The hard luck gelding lost at the wire in last year`s Breeders` Cup Mile.

”He (Itsallgreektome) definitely loves to run at something, and we were in a situation where we didn`t have anything to run at,” said trainer Wally Dollase. ”(Jockey) Jorge (Velasquez) said he had a ton of horse and he had to go (to the lead). That`s the trouble with a mile-and-a-half race . . . in your shorter races, you have something to run at.”

Solar Splendour scratched out of the race because of a back problem.
