Roy Rogers and Norton BuffaloR&B (Blind Pig) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR) 1/2
Guitarist Roy Rogers and harmonica player Norton Buffalo team up for some delightfully eclectic acoustic music on ”R&B.” A former member of John Lee Hooker`s band, slide guitar wizard Rogers produced Hooker`s Grammy-winning
”The Healer” album as well as its just-released follow-up, ”Mr. Lucky.”
He has recorded several solo albums, as has Buffalo, himself a member of the Steve Miller Band for 16 years. Rogers` ”So Much to Say and So Few Words”
starts things off on a good-timey note, his delicate finger-picked guitar complemented by Buffalo`s countryish harmonica, while his ”Song for Jessica” is a breezy instrumental. Buffalo shines on both his rollin` and tumblin`
blues, ”Is It Love?” and on the boogie-woogie tale of woe, ”That`s the Last Time.”
