Rich Mackins paced a bruising running attack that carried Lisle (2-0) to a 27-0 nonconference victory over visiting Westmont (1-1) Saturday.
Mackins carried 12 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns and got help from Brad Patrick, who carried eight times for 89 yards. ”I expect that from them,” said Lisle coach Van Gollan, whose team rushed for 224 yards on 34 carries. ”They`re exceptional athletes.”
Mackins scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and a 7-yarder in the third.
Westmont was held to 130 yards total and six first downs. ”The defense played exceptionally well,” Lisle coach Van Gollan said. ”That`s why we won.”
Chris Dockery returned an interception 23 yards in the second quarter and caught a 24-yard scoring pass from backup quarterback Matt Mettner to end the scoring.
Loyola 6, Notre Dame 0-Fourth-ranked Loyola Academy needed a break to hand Notre Dame its second straight loss in a nonconference game at Wilmette. On fourth down and long yardage late in the first quarter, the snap from center sailed over the Notre Dame punter`s head. Loyola gained possession at Notre Dame`s 10-yard line; a few plays later, quarterback Peter Patton scored from one yard with 2:17 left in the quarter.
”Notre Dame is a veteran group, and you`ve got to give them a lot of credit on defense,” Loyola coach John Hoerster said. Notre Dame limited Patton to 44 yards on 11 carries and 3 of 16 passing for 36 yards and one interception.
”Both teams played great defense,” Hoerster added. ”The way I see it, the kicking game made the difference.”
”We`ll be a team to be reckoned with in the East Suburban Catholic Conference,” Notre Dame coach Mike Hennessey said.
Loyola returned five Notre Dame punts for 84 yards with Kevin Correa returning three for 58 yards.
Glenbard West 26, Leyden 7-No. 11 Glenbard West (2-0), behind the running of Billy Harris, piled up 229 yards rushing out of 309 total while limiting Leyden (0-2) to 85 yards in the West Suburban crossover at Glen Ellyn. Harris scored on a 4-yard run; Darren Dunlap added a 1-yard TD to give Glenbard a 14-0 lead.
After Mike Solomon caught a 5-yard scoring pass for Leyden, Greg Janazek booted 44- and 25-yard field goals to give Glenbard a 20-7 lead at the half. Janazek`s second field goal came with no time showing on the clock before the half. Alex Silva dashed 21 yards with a fumble recovery on the last play of the game for the winners.
”In general, I`m pretty happy with the way we executed some of the things we needed to work on,” Glenbard West coach Jim Covert said. ”We were able to sustain our running game. I thought we did a nice job with that. We`re 2-0 and that`s great.”
”They are executing real well right now,” Leyden coach Bruce Arnold said. ”We came out early and dropped a couple of passes and then we couldn`t stop their offense.”
Hinsdale South 37, Proviso West 7-Hinsdale South (2-0) allowed host Proviso West a 7-0 edge before blasting out to a 31-7 halftime lead in the West Suburban League crossover. After Alvie Shepherd and Kerwin Badie collaborated on a 75-yard touchdown pass for Proviso West, Hinsdale rallied behind Jeff Swift`s 75-yard touchdown jaunt later in the first quarter. Hinsdale erupted for 24 points in the second quarter. Willie Patton tossed a 4-yard scoring pass to Rich Phillips, Patton scored on a 1-yard run and Swift (21 carries, 183 yards) added a 7-yard run. Swift closed the scoring with a 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Immaculate Conception 48, Luther South 0-Tony Mondragon carried 13 times for 230 yards and five touchdowns for IC (2-0). Mondragon`s longest run was a 52-yarder. Aaron Thomas added a touchdown run for the winners, who led 39-0 at halftime, and Larry Reedy had a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mike Blake. Luther South is 0-2.
Driscoll 28, Nazareth 7-John Mika was 10 of 16 for 81 yards and tossed touchdown pases to Corre Turner (6 yards) and Rich Marks (10-yard reception). Mike Burzawa (13 carries, 93 yards, one TD) and Mike Kamienski (14 carries, 81 yards, one TD) handled the running for Driscoll (2-0).

Aurora Central Catholic 29, Marmion Military 22-George Monaco was the big gun for Aurora Central (2-0), rushing for 166 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns and catching two passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. Marmion (1-1) took a 14-7 lead into the fourth quarter on a 21-yard TD pass from V.J. Bellafiore to T.J. Streit and a 5-yard TD pass from Bellafiore to Streit.
Then Aurora Central rallied in the fourth period with three straight scores on 15-yard TD from Tom Kucharski to Keith Klein and two TD runs by Monaco to lead 29-14. Marmion scored the final touchdown on a 44-yard pass from Bellafiore to Warren Dixon.
Willowbrook 21, Oak Park 6-Tom King knew it was going to be a good night. As Willowbrook`s quarterback, King opened the game with a 55-yard run. Though the Warriors (2-0) didn`t score on that drive, King did run for two other short-yardage touchdowns in leading his team to its second win on the road this season. Rob Kirch converted the other Willowbrook score with a four-yard run in the fourth quarter.
”I felt that last week`s game at Glenbard East and this one at Oak Park were important games for us to win,” Willowbrook coach Dan Jordan said. ”We have another formidable opponent in York next weekend, but I`m glad we`ll be at home.”
