Jockey Kerwin Clark has received a stay of a five-day suspension he received from Arlington stewards Sunday.

According to the stewards` ruling, the 32-year-old rider received the penalty for impeding a rival in the seventh race Thursday, who in turn bothered other horses.

The stewards disqualified Clark`s mount Erreil from fifth to ninth for the infraction. Clark was to begin his time off Monday. The Louisiana native`s appeal will be heard at an upcoming racing board meeting.

Pettinger hurt: Jockey Don Pettinger will be out of action indefinitely after suffering two broken ribs in a paddock accident Monday at Arlington. Pettinger was injured just before he was to mount first-time starter Key Element in the seventh race. The 2-year-old Illinois-bred acted up, forcing Pettinger against the outside the rail in the walking ring and kicked him in the chest with his hind legs.

Track management reversed the direction of horses in the walking ring on July 17. The new clockwise direction puts grooms and jockeys in close proximity to the outer walking ring rail.

Tossup trot: The $125,000 Su Mac Lad Stake for 3-year-old Illinois trotters shapes up as a wide open affair Wednesday at Sportsman`s Park.

The field was left up for grabs when divisional leader Gumcorner Lad came up lame last week and was unable to race in his elimination heat.

The filly Chargerette may garner favoritism in the 10-horse field. She won her elimination in an impressive 1:59 4/5. Jeff Carey trains and drives the talented miss.

Hot Spot: Some of the top aged pacers in the country will call Sportsman`s home for the next two weeks.

First on the agenda is the $150,000 American National Aged Pace Saturday. Odds Against tops the field. He won the Canadian Pacing Derby in 1:51 3/5 last Saturday at Greenwood Raceway.

Invaders Dorunrun Bluegrass, Apache`s Flame and Storm Compensation, and local stars CKS and How Bout It are expected to contest both Saturday`s race and the U.S. Pacing Championship Aug. 10 in Cicero.

Super Fan rested: After her second straight ninth-place finish at Arlington, Super Fan-voted Chicago`s top 3-year-old filly last year-will be rested until the Keeneland fall meet.
