The pitching Podlesny sisters, Leigh and Amber, will take their riseball act to Holland Thursday as Joliet`s Whiteford Sharks represent the U.S. in the prestigious Haarlem Softball Week tournament Saturday through July 28.
Leigh is the Illinois-Chicago ace; younger sister Amber struck out 31 last spring in an 18-inning Lockport victory. They`ll match their best against a field that includes national teams from Holland, Italy, the Dutch Antilles and the Canadian Air Force. This is the top-rated tournament in Europe.
”We`ll have a full house of pitchers,” coach Ed Serdar said, listing De Paul-bound Missy Nowak and ex-Bradley ace Glenda Nelson as supplements to the Podlesnys. Nowak pitched Reed-Custer to a runner-up finish in the Class A state tournament.
The Sharks` offense will be headed by Nowak, Oak Park`s Dani Tyler and ex-Morris stars Kindra Phelps and Nikki Davy.
