Duke Robillard Band
Turn It Around (Rounder) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR) 1/2
Although he recently replaced Jimmie Vaughan in the Fabulous
Thunderbirds, six-string ace Duke Robillard continues his string of fine solo albums. Recorded with his Rhode Island-based band, ”Turn It Around” is Robillard`s best effort yet, paying homage to classic rock and blues styles. There`s some head-bobbing Memphis soul (”Down by the Delta”), a Kansas City- style rocker (”Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda”) and wonderfully evocative musical tributes to Chuck Berry (”Don`t Look at My Girl Like That”) and Buddy Holly (”Tell Me Now”), before Duke airs it out on the album-closing
”I Think You Know,” an 11-minute blues guitar tour de force.
