Glove story: Going into his start Saturday night, Doug Dascenzo needed only two games to tie Curt Flood`s National League record for consecutive errorless games in the outfield. Dascenzo had not committed an error in 224 games and had handled 412 total chances.

Injury briefing: Sandberg was in the lineup again Saturday night, having had no problem swinging the bat with his bruised right hand on Friday night. And Mike Harkey, in the early stages of rehabilitation from shoulder surgery, threw briefly on the sidelines Saturday.

Kudos for Castillo: The Cubs were still applauding Frank Castillo`s complete- game victory Friday, the first of his major-league career.

”I never really had to consider removing him from the game,” manager Jim Essian said. ”I had (Chuck) McElroy up twice during the game, but that was only in case something happened.”

The victory came in Castillo`s sixth appearance of the season, minor-league games included. Castillo suffered a broken thumb in his first start, against the Cards` Louisville affiliate.
