Rick Sutcliffe passed another test in a 108-pitch simulated game in Busch Stadium. He`ll start for the Cubs` Class-A Peoria club Wednesday night in Kenosha, Wis.
”My breaking balls were a little inconsistent, but I`m not worried,”
said Sutcliffe, on the disabled list (shoulder) for six weeks.
His catcher in Kenosha will be Joe Girardi, out since April 11 with back problems. Girardi hit and threw Friday but said he still isn`t close to returning. ”I still have to throw to second and run some sprints,” he said.
– Mike Bielecki, who missed his last start with strained elbow ligaments, is scheduled to return to the rotation Saturday night.
