Adam Schmitt
World So Bright (Reprise) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR) 1/2
More Top Picks How To Build Reading Fluency At Home For Struggling Readers
Champaign`s Adam Schmitt plays one-man band on his debut album, emerging with a joyous celebration of tuneful pop that features more hooks per song than most artists manage on a full album. A former member of the Elvis Brothers, Schmitt, 23, is something of a prodigy. He played virtually all the instruments on ”World So Bright” and sang the dazzling harmonies. But this is no mere do-it-yourself exercise.
The album`s dozen songs resound with the innate humability that informs the best work of Squeeze, XTC and the dB`s. Schmitt only falters on the overly precious, McCartney-esque ”Elizabeth Einstein.” If you`re looking for some perfect summertime cruising music, look no further.
