Danny Jackson reported pain in his abdomen after Friday night`s start, but he said it is not serious enough to make him miss his next outing.

”I`m not coming out (of the rotation),” said Jackson, who pitched the minimum five innings required to earn his first Cub win. Jackson shut out the Padres for five innings, allowing three hits and a pair of walks while striking out two.

”It seemed like his stuff was real good, but his location wasn`t,” said manager Jim Essian. ”He was behind in the count, but he was jamming guys and getting guys out rather easily.”

Jackson`s abdomen still hurt when he awoke Saturday morning, but he said that was to be expected after missing nearly two months with a torn groin.

”It`s not nearly as bad as it was after my first start (after the injury),” Jackson said. ”I could barely walk for two days. It`s just going to take me time to build up strength.”

Jackson`s next start comes Wednesday night in Dodger Stadium. He has a 5-3 career record with a 2.34 earned-run average against the Dodgers, rivals of his former team, the Cincinnati Reds.

– Les Lancaster threw 112 pitches in his first outing as a member of the Cub rotation. That`s almost 20 an inning.

”Hopefully, next time, 112 pitches should get me almost a complete game,” Lancaster said. ”Out of the 5 2/3 innings, I think I had three first- pitch strikes. That`s not me.”

Indeed, Lancaster walked five men. He came into the outing with only nine bases on balls in 45 innings.

”He`s going to start again in five days,” Essian said.
