Red, Hot + Blue (6 West Video)
The 90-minute home video version of ABC-TV`s AIDs-related `Red, Hot
+ Blue” special includes seven clips not seen on the original show, plus pointed political information axed by ABC. We finally get to see the piece from Jimmy Somerville, the show`s sole openly gay performer. His lilting version of ”From This Moment On” (directed by Steve Martin)presents a ballet-like exchange between two men-half-romantic, half-combative. There are some disappointments; Jody Watley tries too hard to re-create Porter`s outmoded world of refinement in ”After You Who?” But it`s great to see stone-faced Sinead O`Connor being ironic and sexy in ”You Do Something to Me.” Even better is k.d. lang`s ”So in Love,” which finds the singer caressing a dead lover`s clothes, capturing the sense of loss from the disease.
