Schaumburg, led by Nancy Reyes` first hat trick of year, blew past Prospect 6-0 Saturday to land a berth in Tuesday`s Conant sectional final against Hoffman Estates.
Hoffman Estates (15-5-2) eliminated Glenbard West 2-0.
Reyes had strong support from Colleen Cichon, who had a pair of goals, and Kristin MacArthur, who ended the scoring in the fourth quarter.
”We started out a little tentative, but once we got our game down, we were able to control the ball,” said Schaumburg coach Paul Golisch, whose 17-3-2 team was seeded No. 1 in the sectional and ranks No. 4 in the Tribune poll. ”I think we took over toward the middle of the second quarter and established ourselves.”
Leading 2-0 at the half, Schaumburg scored three times in the third quarter on two goals by Reyes and one by Cichon.
”Somebody had to step up and lead our offense,” Reyes said. ”I was able to read the ball, and our back line did a good job in getting it to us.” Schaumburg`s 13th shutout of the year was shared by Julie Ciasnocha and Gabbie Giauliano.
In second game, Hoffman Estates` Shannon O`Neil converted a breakaway 15 seconds into the game for the only goal the Hawks needed.
The Hawks fiercely defended that edge until six minutes into the fourth quarter, when Emily Longmore curled a corner kick that Glenbard goaltender Carrie Humeston caught. But the ball slithered through her hands for a score.
