If chocolate desserts matter, proceed cautiously. Chances are, you`ll get hooked on a fudgelike creation called a Brownie Point. Take it from someone who did.
Shaped like a cookie, the Brownie Point is filled with chunks of semisweet chocolate and walnuts, then drizzled with chocolate fudge, formulated to melt on your fingers ”so you have to lick them,” says BP creator, baker Suzanne Weissler.
It`s just one of the goodies in Weissler`s repertoire of about 30 items baked at her Chicago wholesale company, Hot Cakes. Other items include a peanut butter mousse cake with Reese`s cups on top; a Buster bar with a chocolate center, topped with white chocolate and walnuts; and a blueberry cake for the health conscious.
”Thirtysomething” Weissler was a stockbroker until about four years ago when she gave in to her creative needs to become a full-time baker. ”Self-taught,” she says.
Weissler`s products are at Starbucks coffee stores, Zambrana`s, 2346 N. Clark St., Quadrant, 406 N. Clark St., Cafe Avanti, 3706 N. Southport Ave., and Cafe Florian, 1450 E. 57th St.
