Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Don`t expect to see Blackhawks defenseman Dave Manson moved to wing so coach Mike Keenan can use all eight defensemen.

”I`ve thought about it, but I don`t want to screw things up with a club that`s playing well as it is,” Keenan said.

But what about Trent Yawney, who could continue to be the extra defenseman sitting out? Bob McGill has gotten a reprieve, playing at right wing.

”The situation will solve itself through injury or giving other players time off,” Keenan said. ”We`ve never had the luxury of doing something like this before.”

– Keenan swears it`s true: No one in the NHL is calling to talk trade.

”Maybe it`s because they know we`re in a position to deal from strength,”

Keenan said. ”But, honest, nobody is calling me to ask about our players.”

– Fine? What fine? That was Keenan`s response when asked if he`d heard from NHL President John Ziegler about whether he would be punished financially for remarks critical of the league and its officials.

”No one`s ever mentioned a fine to me,” he said. ”I know nothing about it.”

Told that Hawks Senior Vice President Bob Pulford had mentioned that Keenan faced a potential $10,000 fine for unbecoming remarks concerning the league, Keenan replied: ”He`s wrong.”
